Quickie: Easy Flipping Formula

One of the easiest and most self-contained ways for making money online is website flipping. While there are many avenues or strategies to pursue, such as buying inexpensive sites, boosting them, and reselling them, for this quickie we’re going to go over a quick and easy formula for building and selling new sites.

This strategy revolves around quickly building unique content sites, and flipping them right away. Using this method, you can expect to get $100-$200 per site, for about a day or two work; if you are good, or able to optimize your efforts, you could realistically produce these sites in about half a day.

To understand this strategy, it helps first to understand the website auction marketplace. While there are a number of venues for selling websites, such as eBay, digital point, and others, we are going to focus our efforts on the Flippa. This is in part because it is the largest auction venue, and in part because it will be the ‘easiest’ in terms of buyer sophistication.

Confessions Of An “Adsense Scoffer”

adsenseI have a confession. I used to be one of “them”. Maybe you’re one of “them” too. You know, the “Adsense Scoffers”.

I had my Adsense experiences, and my good arguments. You know the ones: “A nickel, maybe ten cents, that’s what I’m seeing per click. Who wants to send their visitors away for a nickel?”

Then I was “enlightened”. I discovered the “x-factor” Micro Niche Site revolution. I built a ton of Micro Earning sites. The logic seemed sound: it’s easy to rank high with an Exact Match Domain name for some obscure product name and get a buck or two per day in Adsense clicks. Now if I just build 300 of them, I’d be seeing some real revenues! The problem with that is a) it’s waaaay too much work, and b) Google is tightening up on the ‘free pass’ for ranking Exact Match Domain names.

Well, I’m happy to tell you I’m reformed now. No, I didn’t give up on Adsense. Instead, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to do it successfully. The result? Google is now paying me 6 figures to ‘host’ their ads.

Why Your Website Isn’t Getting More Traffic

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, a member of our forum, or bought our “Adsense $100k Blueprint”, you already know that most of our strategies for making money online revolve around search engine traffic. And you probably know that search engine traffic depends on rankings. But you may be surprised to learn just how important top Page 1 rankings really are.

A study by Cornell University backs up other research that shows more than half of all searchers click on the first listing of the search engine results pages (SERPs). Over 75% will click on one of the Top 3 listings. And the majority of what’s left will click on one of the remaining 7 listings, in decreasing percentages.

What this means is, if you aren’t at or near the top of the SERPs for your desired keyword phrase(s), you won’t be seeing much traffic.

The Keys To Sustainable Income

The focus of this site is on making money online – sustainably. I don’t know if it’s a ‘sign of the times’ in terms of the whole economic picture, or simply human nature, but there seem to be an awful lot of “Magic Bullet” products being launched & promoted. Perhaps it’s the lure of “instant” income, or “money for nothing” i.e. no work necessary. Unfortunately, one thing all these ‘solutions’ have in common is that they aren’t sustainable.

Shortcuts, “Black Hat” methods, loopholes – all of these eventually fall victim to Google’s never-ending efforts to improve their search results – and Google isn’t the only one. This invariably results in these methods or products no longer working. For those seeking the faster, easier way, the reality is that it often takes far more effort having to constantly chase the next loophole or tactic than it does to do things “right” from the beginning.

Google’s ‘New’ Keyword Tool

If you’ve been around a bit, you’ve probably heard – or seen – that Google has ‘revamped’ their keyword tool.

Among other things, it’s wreaked havoc with many of the other tools that use Google’s database as they’ve had to re-code their programs significantly. In addition, the numbers are different…

Wait a minute – how can the numbers be different? Isn’t it still the same keywords, the same number of people searching, etc…?

A snapshot of Google's latest keyword research tool interface.

In fact, they ARE different. Here’s the ‘lowdown’ on Google’s ‘new’ keyword tool:

You may not know this, but Google actually ‘powers’ many search engines besides Google.com. This is called their ‘Search Partner Network’. Sites like AOL use a version of Google’s search engine as their own. Then there are all the other country-specific Google databases.

As a result, Google’s data is based on information from multiple sources. In the past – the ‘old’ keyword tool – the information Google gave us about search volume was based on the search activity of all their search engines. This tended to ‘overstate’ the totals (‘overstate’ is an understatement lol!).

The ‘new’ keyword tool provides search volume data based solely on searches done through Google.com. As a result, the numbers are lower – and more accurate.

All of us – well, many of us anyway – have found keywords that looked great in terms of search volume, only to find that traffic didn’t bear out the data.

Now we can have a little more faith in the numbers. I say ‘a little’ because the numbers still aren’t extremely accurate. In fact, just doing a query will clue you in – there are no ‘real’ numbers like 1545, just ‘thresholds’ i.e. 1200, 2400, 3000, etc. The reality is, none of the keyword tools are entirely accurate. The only way to get a true & accurate measure of search volume is to run an Adwords campaign on the keywords in question, with an unlimited budget, and see how many impressions occur.

What does all this mean for us? Well nothing really changes strategy-wise, but hopefully there will be fewer ‘false gems’, etc. And you should still be cross-checking your results before committing.

I should mention that Micro Niche Finder, Market Samurai, and Traffic Travis, among others, all use that same data set from Google.

How To Earn $100k With Adsense

I touch on this in The Adsense $100k Blueprint, but I want to reiterate it here.

You can approach Adsense two ways. As a ‘sideline’ – an extra little revenue stream – or as a business. The whole focus of A100k is to build a serious, profitable, and stable business. My personal feeling is that the first – a sideline – is not something anyone should be doing. Having Adsense on a site that also promotes affiliate products and list-building, dilutes all of them. That’s not to say some don’t earn some money that way. But if you’re focus is on pitching a product or developing a list, why would you want to remove any of that focus?

On the other hand, if you want to succeed at Adsense as a business, you need to treat it as such.

If you’re going to make the effort and devote the time & resources, don’t sabotage your efforts. Don’t mix Adsense with affiliate sales and list-building on the same sites.

Commit to your business. Don’t sabotage your Adsense sites by diluting them with opt-ins or product pitches. You aren’t likely to achieve those $25- $50- or $100/day sites that way. And if you do, you have a site that can do much more if you put all the focus there.

Understand that Adsense boils down to a simple equation:

traffic x conversions (CTR) x payout (EPC) = earnings.

To boost your earnings, you must boost one or more of these factors. Maximize your conversions – and hence earnings – by limiting the choices on the site.

For me, treating Adsense as a business includes includes staying on top of changes to the Adsense program and policies, continually learning from the experience of others, etc. Google provides some excellent resources to this end, and I strongly recommend you spend some time with them:

$0 – $130 / Day in Adsense Revenue – A Success Story…

If you think Adsense doesn’t work anymore, or that it takes a full-time effort, or only those long-time experts make any *real* money, then you MUST watch to this interview with James Munro.

In the video,  you’ll learn how an “average guy” with limited computer knowledge, (and no previous internet marketing experience), was able to grow his first Adsense site from $0 to $130 / day in net profit within a 4 month period.

He followed our “Adsense $100k Blueprint” course, devoting about 4-8 hours a week to his website.

In the video he explains what motivated him, and shares some helpful tips for those who have not yet reaped the rewards of Google’s lucrative Adsense program.

I hope you find the video inspiring. It truly proves that anyone can build a successful online business if they work smart (and not necessarily hard).

Any questions or comments are always welcome…
